Little things may mean a lot but when it comes to picking litter off the beach it's not a good thing as a group of power pickers gathered hundreds of small items from Felixstowe beach.

The volunteers, who all work in HR at UK Power Networks in Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds, recently spent the day gathering hundreds of small wooden items which included chip forks, ice lolly sticks, sweet wrappers and a large number of cigarette butts.

The team carried out their task as part of The Great British Beach Clean, covering around two miles of beach.

They used their company's Donate a Day which gives the 5,700 staff two paid days each year to volunteer in their local communities.

Donna Galer, HR Reward Adviser said: "We were pleased that there wasn't a lot of large items but there were masses of small pieces of litter which was a shame as there are plenty of bins along there."

So far this year, 335 UK Power Networks employees have completed volunteering time under the Donate a Day scheme.
