People have been flocking to Felixstowe to escape the city for more than a century and quite a few have stayed to make it their home.
It would seem a new influx could soon be on its way as coronavirus has forced people to rethink their lives, and for some a better home/work life balance has become a priority.
Research by Lloyds bank found that 57% of Britons who have worked from home during lockdown now think there is less need to live in a city, a figure that increases to 62% among those who currently call London home.
The same survey found that seven in 10 wanted to work from home more often but only four in 10 wanted to give up the office completely.
A scroll though Felixstowe Nub News' property section highlights the excellent homes on offer, and with average prices dropping by around 8%, according to Zoopla, there are bargains to be had for those looking to flee London.
For example, this four-bed semi-detached in the desirable Ferry area, is on for £550k, and with Bawdsey by foot ferry a short walk, and the town centre a couple of miles, it will be a popular viewing.
If getting a flat is a preferred option, then this two-bed apartment in Harvey House would set you back a reasonable £140k.
Zoopla tell us that the average sale price in IP11 one rthe past year has been £344,719, but estimated value of homes is now £329,187 - an 8.2% drop.
But why would people want to come to Felixstowe?
For a start, it is not part of the Suffolk Coast Area of Natural Beauty for nothing, with its miles of sandy and pebbled beaches, river walks along either the Deben or the Orwell, it is a haven fro those who love the outdoors. There is plenty to do:Even without its carnivals, book festivals, various events, and amusement arcades, there is live entertainment at the Spa Pavilion, while the Palace is a popular cinema and bingo hall, and of course Felixstowe pier has recently undergone a renovation.
There is good choice of restaurants and pubs and a bustling High Street, which the town council is looking to improve even further by promoting independent traders.
Travel and communications:
Felixstowe is at the end of a branch line connecting with Ipswich, and from there commuters can be at Liverpool Street within 90 minutes A foot and cycle ferry connects with Harwich and Shotley from Landguard, alongside the largest container port in Europe, while on the Deben side of the peninsula a small foot ferry takes you to Bawdsey.
