A Felixstowe man has been arrested as police investigate the stabbing of a teenage boy in Ipswich.

The 27-year-old man from Felixstowe, who has not yet been named by police, currently remains in police custody for questioning after being arrested late on Thursday evening following the attack.

Officers were called at just after 5pm on, Thursday 16 September, to reports that a teenager had been assaulted near the junction of Beatty Road and Serpentine Road.

The victim, a 17-year-old boy, sustained a stab wound to the upper arm. He declined an ambulance, arranging his own transportation to hospital for treatment.

At 6pm on Thursday, police arrested two 17-year-old boys from Ipswich on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

This was followed by a third arrest at shortly after 11pm the same evening, of a 27-year-old man from Felixstowe, also on suspicion of assault causing grievous bodily harm.

All three suspects were taken to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, with the two teenagers subsequently released on bail until Thursday 14 October, pending further enquiries.

Detectives are treating this as an isolated incident and believe that all parties involved are known to each other. It is not currently being linked with any other recent incidents.

Additional visible patrols will be carried out in the area of the incident throughout today in a bid to offer reassurance to the local community.

While there is no perceived risk to the wider public, due to concerns of further potential violence between parties associated with the incident, a Section 60 was authorised from 5:30pm yesterday in the south-east, north-west and town centre areas of Ipswich, but this was lifted at 2pm this afternoon, Friday 17 September.

As part of the powers, officers are allowed to stop and search without reasonable grounds, but where there is a risk of violence or believe weapons are being carried.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact South CID at Landmark House in Ipswich, quoting reference: 51453/21.
