Guitarists from the Felixstowe area are being encouraged to learn Ed Sheeran's 'Castle on the Hill' to raise money for mental health.

Suffolk Mind is holding its first fundraising challenge for 2024 – Castle Guitar Quest – from January 20 to February 9.

It encourages guitarists of all levels to learn the Suffolk superstar's popular song in three weeks while raising money through individual sponsorship pages.

Participants will also have the opportunity to perform as a group at Suffolk Mind's gig at Framlingham College on February 10.

Jon Neal, CEO of Suffolk Mind, said: "We are excited to be holding this unique fundraising challenge to kick off the new year.

"Whether learning guitar was your New Year's resolution or you're a seasoned musician, this is a great chance to learn something new and support a great cause whilst meeting your emotional needs for Achievement and Meaning & Purpose.

"All money raised will go towards our vital work to support and raise awareness of mental health in the county.

"Over 30 people have signed up already and I will be brushing the dust off my guitar myself. I look forward to joining everyone on stage at the gig!"

Entries to the Castle Guitar Quest cost £5 and people must sign up before January 20.

Participants will receive access to daily, bitesize, online tutorials to learn the song, as well as a unique commemorative guitar pick.

The tutorials have been provided by Richard Deyn of Ipswich Guitar School. He said: "Combining my passion for teaching guitar with supporting mental health makes the Castle Guitar Quest unique. The tutorials are tailored for all, including beginners, offering a great chance for Suffolk's guitarists to learn, connect, and contribute to a vital cause. I'm excited to guide each participant through this rewarding musical journey."

The gig for friends and family of participants will be held from 2pm on February 10 at Framlingham College. Those who wish to take part will be supported by Richard Deyn's band who will perform additional songs for people to enjoy.
