Felixstowe golfer Andrew Robinson has repeated his PGA Professional Championship East qualifier win of two years ago when he came home five shots ahead of the field at Moor Park Golf Club.

The Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club professional carded an impressive five under par round of 67 to finish ahead of Chase Davis, of Eaton Golf Club, and Christopher Cutchie, of Colchester Golf Club.

Robinson's round - the only one under par - included an eagle at the par five, ninth hole.

But although he also bogeyed three holes, the Suffolk player had a strong back nine.

He will join 11 other qualifiers from the Rickmansworth event who will play in the £69,500 final to be held at Blairgowrie Golf Club in Scotland between June 15-18.

Robinson says he will be hoping to do better than last time in 2019 when he won at Gog Magog Golf Club in Cambridgeshire, but missed the cut in the final.

"I've only played in the event twice and I actually won the qualifying event two years ago," he said.

"But I missed the cut. That year, I didn't play in any tournament golf between qualifying and in the final.

"So this year, I'll be looking to get a couple of events in beforehand. I can't wait for the final in Scotland this year, I've never played there."

Robinson says the past year has been difficult but players are adapting to the fact that events can now be held in something approaching normality.

"It's great to be playing again, you just have to accept the Covid restrictions, which included arriving at the course 50 minutes before, and having your 10 minute slots on the putting green and range," he explained.

"It was a bit strange having to keep your own score on an App, I had a caddy with me and she did that. So I didn't really know my score until after I'd finished my round. The course was fantastic."

The event also included a hole in one, at the par three 10th hole, from Sam Teer, of Clacton Golf Club.
