Felixstowe's firework spectacular cancelled for the second year running
Felixstowe & Walton United have announced that their annual firework display will not be going ahead this year.
This comes after the event was cancelled last year due to lockdown restrictions.
Chris Daynes, event organiser and joint club chairman said: "With restrictions only being relaxed on large public events a matter of weeks ago, the uncertainty made it impossible to undertake any organisation in advance, or risk the outlay of club funds.
"Time simply ran out to organise an event of this scale. Even if we had time, the display and associated infrastructure costs the football club approximately £20,000 up front each year to put on, and we receive no funding.
The Firework Spectacular event has been running since 2007 and has attracted almost 45,000 visitors over that time.
The last event in 2019 saw an attendance of 4,050 at Felixstowe & Walton United's Goldstar Ground.
Mr Dayne said: "The prospect of losing money if the event failed to attract our break even attendance of 3,500, due to public concerns over rising cases or uncertainty surrounding large scale crowds has meant we have no option but to look ahead to 2022 instead, when we hope we'll be back bigger and better than ever before."
