Felixstowe foodies played a huge part in making the Government's Eat Out To Help Out scheme during August

Nub News highlighted how dozens of pubs and restaurants in Felixstowe, Trimley and Levington were taking part in the scheme and diners were hungry to take advantage of the 50% discount.

Latest figures revealed have shown those in the Suffolk Coastal constituency, which includes Felixstowe, made the best use of the scheme, with 143 restaurants taking 161,000 orders and claiming back £881,000.

In Suffolk, where 593,000 meals were bought in total, the average discount per meal was £5.62, with the scheme capped at £10 per person off a bill for a meal and soft drinks.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak thanked the nation's diners for their help in protecting 1.8million people's jobs and driving the country's economic recovery.

"From the get-go our mission has been to protect jobs and to do this we needed be creative, brave and try things that no government has ever done before," Sunak said.

"Today's figures continue to show Eat Out to Help Out has been a success. I want to thank everyone, from restaurant owners to waiters, chefs and diners, for embracing it and helping drive our economic recovery.

"The scheme is just one part of our Plan for Jobs and we will continue to protect, support and create jobs to ensure we come back stronger as a nation."
