A care how in the the centre of Felixstowe has been handed a 'requires improvement' overall rating after a watchdog inspector found staff were placing residents at risk.
Westcliff Care Home, in Leopold Road, Felixstowe, was given the rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) following a visit in June this year.
The home, which at the time of inspection was home to 22 residents, some with dementia.
An inspector reported there were concerns about infection after finding: "... an extractor fan in a bathroom which was dirty and full of dust, the surfaces in the first floor sluice had a white residue over them, the passenger lift was dirty with debris on the floor, the lid of a commode in a person's bedroom had a torn cover and none of the toilet rolls were in enclosed dispensers.increasing the risk of infection."
Staff at Westcliff were criticised for their unsafe moving and handling practice of people in their care.
While staff were praised for some aspects of keeping their residents safe, further inspection of care plans found they were outdated and could reduce risks in the home.
The report noted that: "Governance systems in place were not robust and fully established to support the management team to independently identify and address shortfalls."
However, Westcliff did receive a 'good' rating for both its caring and responsive
The report added: "We saw staff were responsive to people's needs and any requests for assistance were responded to promptly."
The home had been rated good in 2018 but the CQC decided to revisit the home this year following concerns raised.
Westcliff Care Home is run by Hazelwood Care Limited, which has been approached for comment by Nub News.
