An art student from Felixstowe has designed a piece of art that is now on show at Suffolk Constabulary's police headquarters at Martlesham.

Pippa Worthington's artwork came to fruition as part of an on-going modernisation project of the force's training estate.

One area was a commitment to the development of taser training at the Martlesham PHQ with new training facilities.

At the same time , the force's taser training manager PC Wayne Stocking commissioned artwork for the training facility. He liaised with the University of Suffolk with three artists expressing an interest in submitting a proposal for the work.

PC Stocking from the Learning and Development team said: "The intention was that this artwork would inspire attendees to be the best taser operatives they can be, and at the same time encourage reflective thought around the principles of taser and its use in policing more generally."

Pippa from Felixstowe is a multi-disciplinary artist currently studying at the University of Suffolk was the successful artist. She works predominantly in the mediums of drawing, painting and textiles.

The artwork took Pippa four days to complete and she used a mixture of acrylic and emulsion paint. The design is 20 feet in length and about six foot high.

She said: "This work was designed to fit a brief of reflecting the purpose of the space into which it is installed as well as referencing other aspects of the Suffolk Constabulary and local area.

"It offers a visually striking counterpoint to the monochrome nature of the rest of the taser training range whilst also echoing the colours used in the targets. This was an interesting opportunity to create a large scale, site-specific work."

Suffolk's Police and Crime Commissioner, Tim Passmore said: Well done to Pippa for securing the commission to create a piece of art for Police Headquarters. The way the artwork related in a unique manner to Suffolk was very impressive.

"It is a fantastic image and I am sure this bespoke piece, inspired by the police training range, will motivate officers as they embark on their training."
