Fans ban warning as police look into hooliganism at Felixstowe v Sudbury clash
Police and Felixstowe & Walton United football club bosses have warned youths who were involved in incidents of anti-sola behaviour towards AFC Sudbury supports face bans and possible criminal action.
A number of youths the Colneis Road Stand end of the AGL Stadium at Dellwood Avenue last Tuesday for a first team match, allegedly verbally abused visiting fans.
Problems continued in the car park outside the ground when a car's wing mirror, belong to a Sudbury supporter, was damaged.
A Suffolk police spokesperson confirmed: "We are aware of the anti-social behaviour at the ground and investigations are continuing into the criminal damage at Dellwood Avenue."
There were also reports of disruption at home game against Bury and Seasiders directors have moved swiftly to stand out the problem.
Chris Daynes, club director and facilities manager said as part of a statement: "Firstly, I want to thank the vast majority of last nights crowd for their support of both teams. Two top clubs in Suffolk playing football the right way, with great backing on a night that had many other competing attractions such as Valentines, Champions League football on TV, Ipswich Town on i-follow etc.
"Sadly, a small element of youths have shamed themselves and our club by their mindless actions. We, like many clubs, encourage young supporters to games with low entry prices to back the team and become the future generation of fans.
"Unfortunately, a few take the opportunity for a cheap night out to cause trouble, tarnishing not only the good name of our club, but also the vast majority of youths who support the club in the correct way.
"The football club will be using images taken of the perpetrators to identity the culprits, in conjunction with the police and local schools, and they will receive ground bans."
He went on to urge the vast majority of well-behaved fans, not just at Felixstowe, but many other clubs where issues have arisen, to come together and ensure non-league football remains to be safe haven for all the family.
Mr Daynes added: "Our sincerest apologies to any supporters and officials from AFC Sudbury who were affected by the actions of these idiots, and also to any home supporters who may have been caught up in the incidents.
"Finally, a message to those intent on causing trouble. Stay away You are not welcome at our club, we will take all measures to protect our supporters, visitors and officials from your anti-social behaviour."
Meanwhile, on the pitch Start Boardley's side are flying high and on course for a play-off finish.
They entertain Wroxham at home on Saturday.
