A section 60 order in Felixstowe, giving police the power to stop and search without reasonable grounds, has now been lifted.

The order was authorised after a teenage boy was assaulted at some point between 2pm and 2.10pm yesterday afternoon, Saturday 20 November, in the grounds of the Holy Trinity Church in Back Hamlet.

The victim was taken to hospital having sustained leg injuries, however these are not considered to be life threatening or life changing.

Detectives do not believe there is no wider threat to the community, however as a matter of precaution a Section 60 order was put in place at 5pm yesterday which covered the whole of Ipswich and a number of surrounding areas, including Felixstowe and the peninsula.

During this time, and in the areas specified in the order, additional visible patrols were carried out in a bid to offer reassurance to local communities and officers were allowed to stop and search without reasonable grounds, but where there was risk of violence or a belief weapons were being carried.

This authority ended at 5pm today.
