Felixstowe Museum is set to open for the 2023 season with new exhibitions, an exciting new café, a programme of events and longer opening hours which will coincide with the launching of a brand-new website.

A new exhibition reflects on the development and history of the Museum's near neighbour, the Port of Felixstowe, following its growth from the digging out of the original dock basin to the world class facility it is today.

The display combines memories, artefacts and rarely seen port correspondence which all help celebrate the port's significance both locally and globally.

Visitors to the Museum have always enjoyed stopping for a cup of tea or coffee and we are pleased to announce the launch of the Beehive Café which will offer a wider choice of drinks as well as hot food and ice cream for those hot summer days.

The café is named after HMS Beehive, the Second World War coastal forces base at Felixstowe, which is celebrated elsewhere in the Museum, and will also be a space for local artists and photographers to sell their work. The café sits alongside the Museum shop which is offering new stock for the season.

Due to popular demand, the Museum's exhibition celebrating the news, fashion and music of the 1980s has been refreshed and will be on display for a second year.

The Museum is also pleased to mark the 70th anniversary of two important events for the town, the 1953 floods and, as we anticipate the coronation of HM King Charles III, take a moment to reflect on the coronation of HM Queen Elizabeth II, also in 1953.

To complete the offer for 2023, the Museum will be hosting more events during the school holidays and will even host live music in its grounds.

Chairman of Felixstowe Museum David Gledhill said his team had worked tirelessly throughout the winter months refreshing the displays and researching new material and thanked them their continued help and support.

"Felixstowe Museum is evolving, and we are all very excited about the coming season," said David.

"We have a terrific space here with 14 rooms to explore and with careful planning we have been able to accommodate new displays and explore different ways of engaging visitors and to make sure they enjoy their time with us and visit us again.

"The Beehive Café will be a pleasant place to rest a while and enjoy the work of local artists or, on sunny days, people can dine outside and enjoy the fabulous view of the ships alongside at the Port.

"We are also working with our colleagues at Landguard Fort and have extended our opening hours to ensure people who want to come and explore what we have to offer have more opportunities to do so."

It will be open to the public from Saturday, April 8 until the end of October. Opening times are Thursday to Sunday from 11am to 5pm (last entry 4pm).

Entry is £4 for adults and £1 for children.
