E-scooter thieves ordered to pay compensation to Felixstowe transport company

A court has ordered two former employees to pay compensation to a transport company from Felixstowe after they stole e-scooters.

Dozens e-scooters valued at £3,600 were taken on April 8 last year from Felixstowe-based Sea Transport.

John Wye, 42, and Brandon Pitcher-Jolly, 22, both from Ipswich were also handed suspended prison sentences.

Wye, of Virginia Street, Ipswich, admitted his role and pleaded guilty to theft by employee, at Suffolk Magistrates' Court on Tuesday,.

Magistrates ordered him to pay £1,186 in compensation to Sea Transport and Pitcher-Jolly, of Finchley Road, was told to pay £1,800.

The court heard yesterday that Wye had 14 previous convictions for 23 offences, but in mitigation he told magistrates that he had made a few mistakes but was was not a career criminal.

Wye was sentence to eight weeks' imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, with 30 rehabilitation activity requirement days.

Pitcher-Jolly who had five previous convictions, received 20 weeks' imprisonment, suspended for 18 months.
