Ipswich Hospital has confirmed two more people have died there after being admitted with the coronavirus.

Another two cases at the hospital, which serves the Felixstowe peninsula, were confirmed dead on Sunday, which takes the total tally over a four-week period to 19 in Ipswich alone, but the death tally could be higher in the wider community.

Nick Hulme, Chief Executive for East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust said: "Two patients have passed away at Ipswich Hospital, both were in their 80's and had underlying health conditions."

Mr Hulme also admitted another six had passed away at Colchester Hospital, which is part of the same Trust.

We can confirm that sadly, six patients, two in their 90's, three in their 80's and one in their 70's, all of whom had underlying health conditions, have passed away at Colchester Hospital. They had all tested positive for COVID-19.

"Our thoughts and condolences remain with the patients' family and loved ones at this difficult time."

Suffolk has 243 confirmed cases. However, with routine community testing discontinued, these figures will not describe the full extent of cases locally.

The death tally is only related to confirmed cases in hospitals and does not include Covid-19 victims who have died at home or in care homes.
