A lorry driver from Felixstowe alleged to have caused the death of 69-year-old cyclist in Trimley has had his court day moved.

Charles Wilkinson, of Queens Road, Felixstowe, appeared before Ipswich Crown Court on Monday (July 24) for a plea and trial preparation hearing.

Wilkinson, 35, stands accused of causing the death of retired Essex Police inspector Andrew Down by careless driving on November 26 2020.

No plea was taken at Monday's hearing at the request of Wilkinson's barrister.

Judge David Pugh adjourned the case until December 11 for a further case management hearing and a provisional date for a trial, which is expected to last four days, was identified as November 4 2024.

Mr Down died three days after being involved in a collision with an Iveco lorry, at Kirton Road, Trimley St Martin, near Felixstowe, Suffolk.

The former Essex Police officer, from Felixstowe, had been airlifted to Addenbrooke's Hospital following the crash, which happened on one of his regular cycle rides through the villages and Felixstowe coastline.
