Council helping to keep people warm at home

By Nub News Reporter   17th Dec 2025

A BUDGET of £37,500 has been secured to procure and distribute vital Winter Warmth packs across Suffolk.

The project aims to combat the harsh effects of cold weather by helping the most vulnerable residents stay warm and healthy in their homes. The Winter Warmth packs serve as a critical safety net for residents struggling with rising living costs.

The initiative Warm Homes Healthy People (WHHP) is delivered by East Suffolk Council and with Suffolk County Council as a key partner.

Warmth packs are distributed directly to residents through referrals coordinated by WHHP's extensive network of partners, including community groups, food banks, primary care teams, GP surgeries, and hospitals.

Each pre-assembled pack contains essential cold-weather items such as thermal hats, gloves, scarves, blankets, and gilets. Furthermore, the project remains flexible to address specific needs, providing bespoke items ranging from children's winter coats to draught-proofing materials.

Cllr Nadia Cenci, Cabinet Member for Communities, said: "Keeping people warm and well in their homes is one of the simplest but most effective ways we can support our communities through winter.

"This project not only protects residents' health but also helps ease pressure on our NHS and care services at a time when they are under immense strain. I'm proud that Suffolk is continuing to invest in practical, meaningful support that makes a real difference to people's lives."

Further support to make Suffolk homes warmer and reduce energy bills is available for eligible households, for more information visit: www.warmhomessuffolk.org
