Much needed one bedroom flats and two commercial units can now be built at Felixstowe's former police station.

East Suffolk Council planners gave the green light for the new plans at the old cop shop on High Road West, which has been left unused for more than three years after being valued at £1.5m.

Successful applicants Pinn Homes Ltd applied to convert the landmark building into two commercial units - which will front onto High Road West - and could be used for most business or service use.

Eight of the nine self contained flats will be one-bedroomed with a single two-bedroom home, which the planning committee was told, are much needed in Felixstowe.

Fourteen car parking spaces for the flats and eight for the businesses, plus 18 cycle holders, will be included in the scheme, which is within walking distance of the town centre, railway station and beach.

Felixstowe's police officers are now using the same building occupied by the towns Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service across the road.
