Felixstowe Coastguard today issued a warning to dog owners after a quantity of palm oil was washed up on the resort's beach this morning.

The team quickly located the main palm oil rocks, found between Landguard and Cobbold's Point, and removed the toxic substance to be disposed of properly.

Another search was made and while no more palm oil was found there remains concerns that the tides could wash more ashore.

A Felixstowe Coastguard spokesperson said: "If you happen to see palm oil please dial 999 and ask for the coastguard who can arrange quick and safe disposal.

"At this time we advise dog owners keep their dog off the beach and on a lead as this can be fatal very quickly in ingested."

The incident was not connected to another shout which the team responded to the day before.

In an emergency call the Coastguard on 999.
