Felixstowe's Coastguard crew have been involved in a dramatic rescue, while on their way back from another emergency call.

The team helped save a crew of four, which included two young children, who's fishing boat had been stuck huh and dry after running aground on a mud bank.

Mud technicians could not get to them to a rescue helicopter winched them up to safety, with rescue teams from the Clacton and South Woodham Coastguard along with Clacton's Inshore Lifeboat.

The Felixstowe crew members set up a helicopter landing pad off the Essex coast after and the family, who did not need any medical attention, returned home.

According to a spokesman, the Felixstowe team had originally been paged to another vessel aground with up to three people believed to be stuck in mud at Kirby Le Soken.

They were tasked alongside Coastguard rescue teams from Holbrook Walton and South Woodham Ferrers but the people had managed to get themselves back on board the vessel so no further assistance was required.
