A building society has announced plans to withdraw it presence in Felixstowe next month.

Ipswich Building Society will cease to operate a physical presence in the town from September 25, with customers needing to go to branches in either Ipswich or Woodbridge.

In a notice to its customers Ipswich Building Society said: "We remain committed to offering you the best service possible and hope that may still retain your membership."

The loss of the building society follows other closures in the town, with travel agent TUI already closing its shop in Hamilton Road, and Edinburgh Woollen Mill still closed despite other stores in the group opening up.

The TUI branch was one of 166 high street branches to be culled, affecting up to 900 jobs nationwide, although some sales staff have been offered the opportunity to work from home.

A notice in the window of the Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop in the centre of Felixstowe told customers it was remaining closed, although nationwide many of the EWM stores reopened in mid-June.

On a brighter note, a new cafe has opened in the town with Scribble welcoming customers to its eatery on Crescent Corner.
