Barclays bank is closing its Felixstowe branch at the end of June, it has been confirmed.

The Hamilton Road branch will close its tills at 12noon on Wednesday, June 29 and follow HSBC and other national businesses in leaving the town.

Customers will now have to travel to Woodbridge or Ipswich to deal directly with the bank, or use its online services.

A Barclay's spokesperson said: "Before we make the decision to close any branch, we think carefully about how it has been used so far."

"We consider how many customers have been visiting, what kind of transactions they've been making, and all the other ways they've been choosing to bank with us.

"We also take into consideration the availability of other branches in the wider community."

According to Barclays 42 per cent of its customers also use other branches, and 85 per cent use online banking.

Another business joins exodus.
