Felixstowe residents and visitors are being urged to turn out to support the Suffolk Torch relay leg in the town.

Community award winner John Cresswell will pick up the specially designed torch when it comes across to Felixstowe Ferry from Bawdsey and be carried by rickshaw to the town hall, next Tuesday from around 6pm.

John was recently awarded the 'Jubilee Jewel of Felixstowe' Mayor's Award at the Annual Town Meeting for his long-service to the Felixstowe Volunteer Coast Patrol Rescue Service. An organisation he founded 26 years ago and helmed until his retirement in January this year.

A special 'e-Rickshaw' will carry John and the Torch from the Ferry, alighting the Prom at Cobbold's Point and travelling from there along the seafront to the Town Hall.

A Felixstowe town council spokesperson said: "We would love as many people as possible to unite along the Prom from Cobbold's Point to the Town Hall to cheer on John and the Torch.

"Or join us by the Town Hall to welcome the arrival of the Torch. Bring your flags if you have them."

Timings are approximate and subject to the Torch's progress earlier in the day. You can follow the Torch on its journey via the live GPS tracker of the route:https://www.festivalofsuffolk.org/best-of-suffolk-torch-tracker

The Suffolk Torch Relay began in Brandon and passes through 250 towns and villages, covering over 550 miles before reaching its final destination at the Suffolk Show on Wednesday 1st June.
