Pubs and restaurants in Felixstowe and neighbouring villages are set to tempt customers next month as they take advantage of a 50% discount scheme.

Nub News can today reveal the first batch of the locals that are offering deals to diners, add we will be updating as more people let us know their offers.

A government initiative designed to stimulate the economy, allows food establishments to offer a 50% discount on food and soft drinks up to maximum of £20 per person, on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday throughout August.

The owners give you the discount on your meals and softs drinks direct and then claim the money back from the government.

The Mariners in Trimley are going above and beyond by also offering discounted deals for the following two months.

A Mariners manager told Nub News: "We will be offering the 50% voucher off all food and soft drinks when dining Monday – Wednesday throughout August up to the maximum of £20 per person. We will not be offering 50% for just soft drinks alone as this could be complicated if customers only order one soft drink.

"Each customer who dines with us during this time will be given a 15% discount food voucher which they can use during September and October (Monday – Wednesday)," the manager added: "This voucher can be used multiple times, so in theory they could dine with us three days a week and have the discount applied. It cannot be used in conjunction with any other offers or themed events we promote."

Visitors to the Dooley, close to the Port of Felixstowe's gate one entrance, will also be able to take advantage of the 50% offer between 12-2pm and 6pm-9pm, but does not apply to take away.

Weather permitting, customers at the Ferry Boat Inn, will be able to enjoy half price fish and chips all day on Monday through to Wednesday, as the popular pub in Felixstowe Ferry apply their summer routine.

Greene King pubs the Grosvenor and Owl and Pussycat are both joining in and a spokesman told Nub News: "We will be running the Eat Out to Help Out scheme at the Owl & Pussycat and Grosvenor.

"The offer will be 50% off food and soft drinks Monday-Wednesday throughout August."

More pubs and restaurants are expected to sign up to the government scheme, although some may not for a variety of reasons. Nub News will keep you updated.
