Mexican international Silvana Flores has revealed her affinity with Felixstowe was a factor in joining Ipswich Town on loan from Spurs

Silvana, who made her debut in the Tractor Girls FA Cup quarter final 1-0 loss against Women's Super League side West Ham at Felixstowe's Goldstar Ground has signed for Joe Sheehan' promotion chasing team until the end of the season.

The highly-rated midfielder originally came to Suffolk with her family when brother Marcelo was playing for the Blues academy.

"I grew up here in Felixstowe," Silvana told Nub News. "I still have loads of friends here, Ipswich and Colchester.

"We lived in Felixstowe for the first two years of being here so I know the town, and the coast really well."

Ipswich sold Marcelo to Arsenal for a £1m, while Silvana has had spells with Arsenal and Chelsea academies, and signed for Reading before moving to Tottenham.

She played for the Cayman Island under-15s when she was just 11, when the country was being coached by her dad Ruben.

By 2018, she had already chosen to play for her dad's country Mexico internationally and represented them at FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, where they finished runners up.

After playing in the 2019 Sud Ladies Cup and two CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship, Silvana made her senior debut in February 2021 in a 0–0 friendly home draw against Costa Rica.

After spending the with Mexico recently following an injury laying for Spurs, the 19-year-old has joined Ipswich to get her fitness up to top notch and help them secure promotion.

She went on as a second half substitute against the Hammers and impressed instantly with her desire to get on the ball.

"It was a super-exciting day," said Silvana. "I'm so happy to make my debut here at Felixstowe for Ipswich.

"It was special because I know quite a few of the girls, and Joe for some time, and especially in front of these fans. They were fantastic and is was amazing to to play in this packed stadium.

"To hold a WSL team to just 1-0, and by the way we never seemed in that much danger, was good, although we could have done better with things like possession.

"We will take the positives from that game into the rest of the season.

"Our focus is very much on the league now and we know we need to win the next six games to make that play-off game."

Apart from the Felixstowe connection, Silvana explained why she had chosen the Blues.

She said: "I was looking for a club that could give me minutes and while I had a few offers from Championship teams, but if I was going to travel to play I would rather go to a club where I know the people are good people.

"I know the girls and the manager and I heard so many good things about the fans, so Ipswich was the obvious choice and it is an easy transistion.

"I want to get lots of minutes, get my rhythm back and score goals, get assists and make some crunching tackles."

Silvana is expected to make her league bow for the Tractor Girls at Felixstowe's Goldstar Ground on Sunday, when they entertain Plymouth Argyle in the FA Women's National League Southern Premier Division.

The game is NOT an all-ticket match.
