This year's Armed Forces Week maybe somewhat muted due to the ongoing pandemic precautions but they are still plenty of ways you can show your support.

Felixstowe mayor Mark Jepson raised the Armed Focus flag at Felixstowe this morning, while a simultaneous, and even more low key event was performed at Landguard Fort and other places across the country.

Darren Aitchison, Felixstowe Royal British Legion's chairman and town councillor, was keen the annual event was still marked, even without the usual razzmatazz.

"This week is about everyone associated with the armed forces, veterans, cadets as well as serving personnel, including their families," said Mr Aitchison. "It has been difficult to organise parades and many other things so there are alternatives now being organised online.

"People can go to the armed forced website, the British Legion site and various charities."

With Covid-19 occupying people's lives gratitude, donations, the annual event could be overshadowed, by Mr Aitchison urged people to focus on serviceman for a week.

"Recent the NHS has come to the fore, with the Thursday clap, and there are many deserving people in the country who deserve recognition, but this week is the one for Armed Forces." said Mr Aitchison.

Felixstowe's legion will be playing its part and Mr Aitchison believe sit is a s relevant today as it was 100 years ago next May.

"We can supply support for ex-military and their families and close relatives," said Mr Aitchison. "We can provide financial support, well-being support and mental health support.

"It is still very relevant. We have 300 members in Felixstowe and we do a number of events, including a Breakfast club and Christmas lunch."
