Felixstowe garden waste collection suspended by council

East Suffolk Council is to suspend all garden waste collections in Felixstowe as from today for at least a week as it seeks to recover from unprecedented incidents which have badly affected the processing of collections.

A fire earlier this month at the Ransomes Waste Transfer Facility near Ipswich meant that all East Suffolk collections had to be taken to a site at Lowestoft. However, storm damage to the Lowestoft facility has now led to its closure.

Therefore all collections are now being taken to a temporary facility requiring longer journey times for each vehicle, which in turn impacts the timings of rounds.

So, to ensure the necessary capacity to complete waste and recycling collections, the only option is to suspend our garden waste service, from Monday, for one week so that more vehicles are available.

The Council will review this approach next Friday and we aim to restore the garden waste service as soon as possible.

Please present your waste or recycling bin on its normal collection day. If it is missed due to the backlog, we will endeavour to collect it the following day.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this causes in what are highly unusual circumstances.
