Police in Suffolk stopped almost 300 vehicles and detected over 350 offences, after targeting drivers of Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) as part of an operation supported by Highways England.

Operation Tramline saw police provided with an HGV tractor unit by Highways England, which allowed officers to carry out patrols across the strategic road network in both counties and focus on offences committed by lorry drivers.

Oulton Broad councillor Keith Robinson will remain East Suffolk Council's chairman for another year, having steered online council meetings during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mr Robinson, Conservative, has been in post since the delayed annual meeting in September last year, and at Wednesday's 2021 annual meeting was nominated to continue.

A serious crime officer has issued a warning after Felixstowe residents were among those tricked by fraudster into handing over laptops and smart phones to criminals.

DC David St John, of the serious economic crime unit, spoke out after Adekoya Adefowora, 38, from Erith, and Deborah Oyeniyi, 23, of Canning Town, each admitted seven counts of fraud by false representation and were jailed last week.

A tariff-based plan to protect East Suffolk's habitat sites and conservation areas, including those on the Felixstowe peninsula, from the impacts of increased housebuilding has been improved to help developers understand their obligations.

East Suffolk Council's cabinet last night approved a supplementary planning document as part of its strategy to avoid disturbance on key natural sites by increased numbers of people moving into the area.
