Dentaid development manager Sue Smith call for more funding

A dental charity has called for more local authority funding following the success of a two day free dental treatment event for Felixstowe fishermen.

Dozens of people from Felixstowe and neighbouring areas took advantage of the check up and treatment offered by Dentaid, and organisers, volunteers and the fishing community have asked for the event to become a regular fixture.

In 2013, 93 year old Clifford Dadson, from Cumbria become the oldest graduate in the UK after receiving an Arts degree from the Open University. He began studying when his wife, Rae, passed away in 2009 and has vowed to continue studying by signing up to a religious module with the university.

Lifeboat Albert Brown underway (Picture credit: RNLI)

In fittingly atrocious weather, the RNLI marked the 25 years anniversary since its all-weather lifeboat Albert Brown, which also serves Felixstowe, was declared operational.

Its launch on October 2, 1996 made it the first Severn class lifeboat to go into service for the RNLI and continued a tradition of firsts, going back to 1890 when the RNLI's first steam powered lifeboat, Duke of Northumberland was stationed at Harwich.

Fishermen at Felixstowe Ferry have spoken of their gratitude after vital mobile medical facilities were taken direct to them.

Dental charity Dentaid, the NHS and Suffolk county council health services were on hand as part of a Seafit initiative organised by the Fishermen's Mission at the Felixstowe Ferry boatyard yesterday (Friday, October 1) and will be there again today.

Collaborative work spaces would available @inc Felixstowe

A Felixstowe project is one of two from East Suffolk that have been awarded funding through the latest round of the Suffolk Inclusive Growth Investment Fund (SIGIF).

Funded by Suffolk's Public Sector Leaders as part of the Suffolk's Covid-19 Recovery Plan, SIGIF is now supporting 15 projects across the county, with additional contributions secured from New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership.
