If you're a stay-at-home parent, juggling your daily responsibilities with your need to earn an income can be tough. Home-based businesses might seem like the obvious solution, and e-commerce opportunities are certainly a popular choice. Nub News shares a few reasons why other business models might be a better fit, though — including the following six suggestions.

1. You Need Socialization

As a stay-at-home parent, you're the anchor of your household — but that doesn't mean you have to stay at the homestead 24/7. On the contrary, getting out and socializing with people is a great way to maintain your mental health. E-commerce businesses will likely keep you confined to the house, whereas an in-person business allows you to interact with others.

2. You Could Be Limiting Your Income

You should also consider whether starting an e-commerce business would limit your potential earnings. You've probably heard miraculous stories of six-figure incomes generated from online sales, and indeed many people find success, but limiting your business to an online platform will likely minimize sales — not increase them. In addition to selling your services online, offer them to in-person clients, too.

3. You Should Capitalize on Your Skills

The best businesses are ones that capitalize on their founder's unique abilities. You might be a talented teacher, for example, in which case you'd be a great fit for a tutoring business. If you love animals, try pet-sitting, or if you're a skilled writer, venture into copywriting. Although e-commerce may be lucrative, it's often a one-size-fits-all business model — and you may do better by focusing on your own skills instead.

4. Your Business Has Great Potential

Remember that developing an in-person business plan doesn't mean that you can't conduct business online — it just means that your business won't be confined to an online e-commerce format. If you want, you can operate a hybrid business and conduct transactions both online and in-person. Starting a non-e-commerce business is beneficial because it offers more opportunities and flexibility.

5. You Can Market an In-Person Business

Marketing will make a major difference in how your business performs. Although there are many web-based marketing tools, physical marketing materials can be impactful, too — and reach a wider audience. You can leverage your business's potential by marketing it effectively with a promo pack or brochure that you distribute to clients. Use content that's already on your website by converting a Chrome webpage into a PDF and using it in your marketing materials. These steps will help you save that webpage as a PDF.

6. You Shouldn't Settle for Easy

Starting a business is challenging no matter what kind of model you opt for. That said, e-commerce businesses are often popular because they are one of the easiest to start. Rather than settling for easy, dive into your dream business by acquiring funding, creating a home workspace, choosing a business structure, and marketing your new business.

Start a Business That's Based on Your Abilities

There's no shortage of e-commerce businesses on the market. Rather than opting for an online opportunity, take on the challenge of starting your own unique in-person business. You'll quickly see why an in-person business is likely to be the best fit for an ambitious stay-at-home parent.
