A £2,500 donation from the recently created East of England Co-op Community Cares Fund has enabled Suffolk Libraries to increase the capacity of its new Lifeline service.

Launched at the beginning of May, the Suffolk Libraries Lifeline has made almost 5,000 calls and has been extremely well received by the community.

Fewer pupils and schools in Suffolk, including those in Felixstowe, returned than anticipated, according to education chiefs, as parents proved to be cautious about sending their children back.

On June 1, primary schools were allowed to open doors to reception, year one and year six pupils for the first time since March as part of Prime Minister Boris Johnson's next step of easing the coronavirus lockdown.

Members of the Women's Royal Army Corp Association clapped and cheered Joan Rich as she epitomised their motto by completing her 35th lap of Allenby Park in the resort and edged closer to her target of completing 102 laps before her 102nd birthday in September.
