Christmas lights show cancelled

Coronavirus concerns have led to Felixstowe's annual Christmas lights switch on show, being cancelled.

Organisers Felixstowe Lions Club, supported by the town council, still pan to have lights to attract thousands to the resort so visitors can enjoy festive entertainment and browse the shops and craft market to mark the festive season.

As was fitting for a former Redcap leading by example, Joan Rich was given a guard of honour as she completed her fund raising challenge of completing 102 laps of Allenby Park on her 102nd birthday.

Mens and women from the Royal Military Provost lined the entrance to the park in Felixstowe as the former nurse and RMP member did her final lap and raise almost >> for NHS Charities.

World class opera singer Christina Johnston will be performing songs from the Phantom of the Opera with even more emotion than usual tonight as she battles through her own personal heartbreak.

Christina, who has been performing live online shows from a studio at her Felixstowe home, has been told her husband Viacheslav Myachin, known as Slav, has no choice but to leave the UK on Tuesday and return to Russia, after being refused permission to stay longer as his visa has expired. The decision comes despite Slav's strong connections, and even passing an English test last week with flying colours.

Rail link to Ely consultation underway

A public consultation on improving rail capacity at Ely to take more freight from Felixstowe has started.

Achieving an hourly Ipswich to Peterborough passenger rail service and enabling more freight to travel by rail has moved a step closer with the announcement that Network Rail will be seeking the public's views on a proposed scheme that will unlock rail congestion at Ely Station.
