Christian Zemann and his wife Lucy have vowed to resume the vital foot ferry service between Felixstowe, Harwich and Shotley, despite suffering a massive blow late on Friday night

Gale force winds pulled the former SS Canberra lifeboat from her mornings at Ha'penny Pier, Harwich, and cast her adrift. A crew from the Harwich Haven Authority managed to secure her and pull her back to the pontoon but she had taken on a lot of sea water and suffered serious damage as she partly submerged.

The Felixstowe foot ferry to Harwich and Shotley is likely to be out of action for the rest of the season after sea water got into the engine.

High winds caused the ferry to break free of her moorings at the Ha'penny pier, Harwich last night and then took on water. She was swept around the pontoon and ended up stuck under the gangway down from the pier to where she she was originally tied up.

Fire broke out on first floor of Mariners pub

A Felixstowe pub owner has vowed to reopen this evening after a fire forced staff to flee the building at lunchtime today.

Four fire appliances were called to the small fire at the Mariners in Trimley at around 1.40pm today after a dryer in a first floor room caught alight but the emergency crews soon had the situation under control.
