The Government has said it is confident that regular Orwell Bridge closures in high winds will rapidly be cut back in 2021 – with a reduction in closures by as much as 80% anticipated.
During an adjournment debate in the House of Commons on Thursday evening specifically on the bridge, Minister for State Andrew Stephenson recognised the closures "can and do cause havoc in the surrounding Ipswich roads," and the government "has been pressing for the situation to be resolved".

Scores of lorries, trucks, bikes and cars making their way to and from Felixstowe were today pulled in for a large scale vehicle check involving multi-agencies, led by Suffolk police.
Officers from the Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency, Driver & Vehicle Licencing Agency, Suffolk Trading Standards, Environmental Protection, Gangmasters and Labour Abuse Authority (GLAA) and Marston's civil debt collectors, were assembled to deal with the range activities uncovered by Suffolk police officers along the A14 and A12.

More than 100 vehicles were stopped, 60 Traffic Offence Reports issued and one man arrested, during a multi-agency day of action on roads heading in and out of Felixstowe.
The operation took place yesterday, Wednesday December 2, with the aim of disrupting and frustrating the activities of criminals, including organised crime groups, who commit offences across county borders whilst using the road network.

A former police officer and keen mountaineer who died following a serious road traffic collision in Trimley St Martin last week has been named by police, as his family issue a tribute to him.
Subject to confirmation at formal inquest proceedings, the deceased person has been identified as Andrew Richard Down, aged 69, from Felixstowe.
Eight Felixstowe car parks will be offering free 30 minute parking from Friday in a bid to encourage people to shop local.
The eight are at: Brackenbury Fort, Clifflands, Convalescent, Crescent Road, Felixstowe Pier, Highfield Road and Landguard.

Felixstowe drivers are being urged to enjoy the festive season safely and not gamble with peoples' lives, as Suffolk Police launch their annual Christmas campaign highlighting the dangers of drink and drug driving.
The month-long initiative launched today, Tuesday, December 1 and continues until Friday January 1, in conjunction with a UK-wide operation led by the National Police Chiefs' Council. It will see officers carrying-out roadside checks throughout the day and night, including early morning checks, as well as intelligence-led enforcement activity.

A Felixstowe arsonist who set fire to a barn in Levington has been remanded in custody while he can be assessed by a psychiatrist
Robert Schwer, 55, of Brightwell Close, Felixstowe, appeared via video link at Ipswich Crown Court via a prison yesterday (Monday, November 30)
