Solstice in Felixstowe

The Summer Solstice is on its way, taking place on what we call the longest day of the year, and Felixstowe will be one the first towns in the UK to see it occur.

The Summer Solstice occurs when one of the earth's poles has its maximum tilt toward the sun, so therefore it reaches its highest position in the sky and is the day with the longest period of daylight.

Agreement has been given for Suffolk County Council to pursue a Government plan to overhaul bus services, which aims to significantly improve public transport provision, for places such as Felixstowe and its neighbouring rural areas.

Suffolk County Council's cabinet on Tuesday afternoon agreed to pursue the 'enhanced partnership' model of delivering bus services – effectively a set-up where the council and bus providers will jointly deliver improved services.

Extra cameras, better training and a new method for the parking are among new changes in the way hauliers and crane drivers work together will take place at the Port Of Felixstowe.

The new measures come into effect after an investigation into an incident where a driver had a lucky escape when a container came down on top of his cab in April.
