Felixstowe is among a number of east coast towns bidding to become the UK City of Culture 2025.

Despite not being mentioned by name in the 2,000 word press release, Felixstowe is part of the attempt, despite Suffolk not having a city anywhere in the county.

Suffolk's second PING! Town was officially launched in Felixstowe, with the opening of outdoor tables sited throughout the town.

The tables – located at six key play areas in the town along with two in the heart of the town centre at Great Eastern Square - have been made possible thanks to a wider partnership between Table Tennis England, Suffolk County Council led Most Active County Partnership - which will see increasing numbers of tables located in a variety of outdoor locations across the county – and locally East Suffolk Council and Felixstowe Town Council.

The familiar sight and sound of a Spitfire was among the planes heard over the Felixstowe peninsula today.

Residents in Trimley and surrounding areas took to social media to say how they had seen, and heard. the distinctive roar of the plane with its Rolls Royce engines.

Work has started on transforming a former Felixstowe school for a scheme to deliver more housing and leisure opportunities in the town.

Builders have move don to the Deben High site to demolish a large part of the former school buildings to accommodate a new leisure and housing development.

Suffolk is set to continue on its path of working towards full capacity at recycling centres as Monday 19 July brings the end to lockdown with restrictions easing.

Much like many other recycling centres across the country, Suffolk's Recycling Centres, including Felixstowe's Carr Road, have been operating a socially distanced system during the pandemic.

Prime Minster Boris Johnson announced that nearly all legal social distancing measures in England will be lifted on Monday, 19 July as the country moves to the final stages of Covid easing.

The announcement comes as a number of people in the Felixstowe area are self isolating after either being tested positive, or being pinged by the NHS, saying they had been in close contact with an infected person.

A London Eye style ferris wheel is being planned for Felixstowe seafront.

The 34.5m (approx 105ft) high observation will offer views across the resort's bay across the North Sea to Sealand, over Landguard Point, and the docks towards Harwich and the Shotley peninsula.
