Afghan women fleeing from the Taliban

Felixstowe is among a number of towns expected to pull its weight after Suffolk's councils united to pledge their support in the Afghan refugee crisis, saying "times like these call for acts of humanity".

The county's authorities were briefed by the Government late Wednesday afternoon on the resettlement scheme, which will allow 20,000 Afghans fleeing the Taliban to seek shelter on UK shores.

Positive cases of Covid-19 have continued on a downward trend in Felixstowe and neighbouring villages, along with other parts East Suffolk and the rest of Suffolk councils, bar one.

Data up to yesterday, 15 August, showed 437 people in the district were tested positive within the past week, the highest in the county, but still leaves East Suffolk 329th out of 358 ares in the country, only West Suffolk saw an increase.
