While The Mariners in Trimley celebrates its fifth anniversary under Melissa and Terry Purnell, there has been a pub on that site since the 1700s. Originally called the New Inn, it changes its name to the Three

Mariners in honour of Thomas Cavendish, who was born in Trimley St Martin and was the first man to command a ship that deliberately circumnavigated the world (previous circumnavigators had done so accidentally). Hunter Cooper was the first recorded landlord going back to September, 1728.
