A carnival weekend to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee is being coordinated by the Felixstowe Carnival Association, Felixstowe Town Council and Visit Felixstowe.

As the nation comes together to celebrate the Queen's historic reign, Felixstowe residents are invited to participate in the Jubilee by joining in with local events and sharing the ways they plan to mark the occasion, which will take place over the bank holiday weekend Thursday 2 - Sunday 5 June.

Street parties throughout local communities are encouraged and Suffolk County Council has waived fees for road closures to enable groups of residents to get together and celebrate with their neighbours (apply via the Suffolk County Council website by 27th March).

Details on how to arrange your own community event or street party, plus information on all the events taking place in Felixstowe across the extended bank holiday weekend will be outlined in the Town Council's Spring magazine, with more information being added all the time to the Visit Felixstowe website.

The events happening in Felixstowe are also part of this year's Festival of Suffolk, spearheaded by the Suffolk Lieutenancy, which will be shining a spotlight on all aspects of Suffolk life to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

Mayor of Felixstowe, Cllr Mark Jepson, said: "The Town Council is delighted to be supporting the Carnival Association with its exciting plans to celebrate this unique and special occasion. We would like people across the town to get in touch and let us know what they're planning, or how they'd like to get involved with local events."

Julie Bellamy, Chairman of the Felixstowe Carnival Association, said: "We are pleased to bring the Jubilee Carnival Weekend of celebration to Felixstowe. There will be lots of fun, displays and entertainment all weekend for everyone to enjoy. To help deliver this fabulous one-off event we will need our happy band of volunteers. Join us and help us bring the fun and enjoyment to all."

Sheline Gledhill, Felixstowe BID and VisitFelixstowe Manager, said: "Felixstowe loves a party and Visit Felixstowe, and Felixstowe BID, will support these celebrations wholeheartedly. Check the Visit Felixstowe website and social media for more details as they are announced and for coverage of the events as they happen.

"Felixstowe BID will be engaging with shopkeepers and businesses and encouraging them to decorate their windows to help create a party atmosphere in town."
