Grants of up to £2,000 are being offered to community groups in Felixstowe and the Trimleys.

The Port Community Fund (PCF) is a unique coming together of local shipping and transport businesses to support charities and good causes in the Felixstowe and surrounding area and is administered through Suffolk Community Foundation (SCF).

The PCF was founded in 2008 to enable these businesses to create a joint approach to fund raising; the objective being to pool their funds and have a greater pot from which to support local causes and building closer relations with the local community.

The aim of the PCF is to support a wide range of grassroot Suffolk-based charitable and community organisations supporting those that live and work in Felixstowe and The Trimleys.

Organisations do not need to be based in Felixstowe, but clear evidence needs to show that the beneficiaries are from Felixstowe and The Trimleys.

The fund will offer standard grants up to £2,000. It will support local community issues and initiatives addressing priority needs.

Previous recipients among the scores of community groups helped over the past 12 years, include ActiveHubs in Felixstowe, the Woolverstone Project, Music in our Bones, and Boost Felixstowe.

The main aim of the grant programme is to:

  • Support local solutions to meet local needs
  • Promote community cohesion
  • Develop sustainable and supportive communities
  • Tackle disadvantage
  • Promote health and wellbeing

Based on surveys of need within the county, SCF has identified certain disadvantaged and vulnerable groups as having particular needs, including:

  • Older people
  • Children
  • Young people
  • People suffering from a long-term disability or illness
  • Carers
  • Low-income families
  • Minority groups
  • People with mental health needs
  • People isolated in rural areas

Who can apply?

The foundation will consider applications from voluntary and community groups whose primary aim is to improve the quality of life for residents of Felixstowe and the Trimleys by meeting a local need.
