The last supermoon of the year will pass across the Shotley peninsula tonight, looking almost close enough to touch. Known also as a strawberry moon, the supermoon is a full moon which appears about 14% bigger and 30% brighter than normal. The best time to gets its full effect is to look in a south eastern direction just after sunset at around 21.30. A strawberry moon gets its name, not for its colour, but was even by native North American Indians, as it usually arrived when they collected strawberries.
