Five Fascinating Facts:

In Shakespeare's time, mattresses, which led to hammocks, were secured on bed frames by ropes. When you pulled on the ropes, the mattress tightened, making the bed firmer to sleep on.

Hence the phrase...'Goodnight, sleep tight'

In the 1400's a law was set forth in England that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb.

Hence we have 'The rule of thumb'

In English pubs, ale was ordered by pints and quarts.. So in old England, when customers got unruly, the bartender would yell at them 'Mind your pints and quarts, and settle down.'

It's where we get the phrase 'mind your P's and Q's'

Many years ago in Scotland, a new game was invented.

It was ruled 'Gentlemen Only...Ladies Forbidden'...and thus, the word GOLF entered Into the English language.

The first couple to be shown in bed together on prime time TV was Fred and Wilma

Flintstone.

Joke of the day: (bit longer than usual but hope you find worthwhile - our thanks to reader Clive Kersey))

We're still battling COVID-19 and the next thing is here already:

The NILE Virus, type C

Virologists have identified a new Nile virus - type C.

It appears to target those who were born between 1940 & 1970

Symptoms:
  1. Causes you to send the same message twice.
  2. Causes you to send a blank message
  3. Causes you to send a message to the wrong person.
  4. Causes you to send it back to the person who sent it to you.
  5. Causes you to forget to attach the attachment.
  6. Causes you to hit SEND before you've finished.
  7. Causes you to hit DELETE instead of SEND.
  8. Causes you to SEND when you should DELETE.

It is called the C-NILE virus.

And if you can't admit to doing the above, you've obviously caught the mutated strain -

The D-NILE virus.
