The inventors of the hyper-link were residents in Felixstowe when he came up with the idea and got it to work.

Desmond J Sargent was living in Cobbold Road, while fellow inventor Samuel Fedida also lived in the town, while working for what was the Post Office at BT Martlesham 45 years ago in 1976 when the idea clicked.

The pair filed their patent in August 1977 and the telecoms giant were given full rights in 1980.

BT's claim about the legality of world famous hyper-link – which allows people to go from web page to another web page at the click of a mouse, became a huge copyright court case in the US, when they sued an internet provider company called Prodigy.

No matter, Felixstowe continues to claim the duo as the inventors, and two of its own.
