Hungry Hack food review: The Ferry Cafe, Felixstowe fabulous breakfast, service and nostalgia

The Hungry Hack is back in Felixstowe and ravenous for a quality, no-frills, all-day breakfast.

Whether you have been out fishing on the Deben, or taken the ferry across from Bawdsey, been out rambling along the riverbank or the Felixstowe beach looking out to the North Sea, an appetite will no doubt have been built up and the all day breakfast at the Ferry Cafe beckons.

Like the hamlet of Felixstowe Ferry itself, the quaint cafe is steeped in history, the food traditional fishing quay fayre but the twist is the decor.

Vinyl records mingle with black and white photographs of fishermen, boatyard workers and former skippers of vessels going back years.

Felixstowe Ferry is welcoming, immaculately clean and the service is old fashioned politeness, attentive and swift without being rushed.

The table was laid out smartly, with the knife and fork in individual paper gloves, but no sauces as they have to be bought additionally.

No surprise then that the Hungry Hack's breakfast (at lunchtime) was faultless.

Meaty sausages packed with taste, cured bacon, eggs sunny side up and runny, ideal for dipping the toast into.

There was a hash brown, while the beans came in a separate ramekin and the sprinkling of mushrooms made me a fun guy to be after the feast.

The £8.95 price tags included a large back coffee and all in all excellent value.

Although not huge selection, Ferry Cafe's menu includes favourites such as cod, plaice, scampi, Suffolk sausages, and chicken nuggets among the main meals.

There is also a range of baguettes including bacon, cheese and ham, and vegetarian options. Of course, the ubiquitous chips are available with everything.
